Rising Stars looks forward to launching this high quality lively short story contest geared specifically to young writers. This contest runs month to month and is open to WDC members between the ages of 12 and 18. It will open in June and continue on to become one of Rising Stars's regular programs. The monthly prompts for this contest appeal to young writers and are meant to inspire as well as help entrants strengthen their craft. To this end, every entry will receive reviews from the contest judge(s) as well as from members of "The PAPER DOLL GANG" with whom we have partnered for this project. Prizes for winners. How can I be sure my reviews are hitting the mark? What's the best way to handle giving a less than stellar review for someone? Aren't I risking offending them, or worse, making an enemy and risking retaliation? Is it true that reviewing will help make me a better writer? Is it a good idea to continue reviewing when I'm experiencing writer's block. Seating in the 10-4-10 RSBRR Workshop is limited to TEN Rising Stars who will be part of a TEN- DAY comprehensive, in depth session designed to build reviewing prowess through personalized lessons and hands-on assignments designed to encourage Stars to raise the bar in reviewing their compatriots here at WDC. s. Look for a mailing with instructions to register. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Kick The Plot Habit July 20th-July 30th Ladyoz Do you find yourself coming up with story ideas all the time, but getting nowhere with fleshing them out? Keep tripping over the plot? Too often, plot gets in the way of telling a story. Too many otherwise good stories are strangled by the strictures of plot. This highly rated ten-day workshop will show you how to simply tell a story by asking a series of questions about the characters and their situation. Participants will be given a story title and theme to use for this exercise, and will be encouraged to build a story around a series of questions. Participants will be expected to write a minimum of 300 words per day during this workshop - do not sign up if you can't put in the time! However, this is an easy class suited to beginner or intermediate writers in any genre. Open to 15 individuals. Early notice to Rising Stars/open to W.Com community.
