's The Other Side of Summer contest is a multi-round writing contest running from late May through early September. Round four is now open! All members are welcome to enter all rounds.
Round 4: We Want Your Story!
What happens when you lose a contest? What do you do when you receive yet another thanks-but-no-thanks from publishers? Do you have pieces in your portfolio that you thought were great, but they didn't measure up to others' expectations? Do you think those pieces deserved better? Then this is the round for you!
Don't toss that old story! We want it here.
Your piece qualifies if it fits into one of these categories:

You entered it in a contest, but it was disqualified and you got a big fat nothing. Maybe you went over the word limit or edited past the deadline. Maybe you tried to post it after the contest closed or missed a key requirement. If you wrote it for a contest and it was disqualified, we want it!

You submitted it a publisher or literary magazine and got a form rejection. Not a nice rejection, with an entreaty for future submissions, but a plain old two-sentence brush off. If it got flat-out rejected, we want to see it!

You met all the deadlines, fulfilled all the criteria, and waited patiently for a response, but nothing happened. The publication folded before they could review your work. The contest disappeared right off of Writing.com without a whisper of a reason from the judge. If you were left out in the cold, confused and alone, we want you!
How To Post

In the title of your post, write either
Entry: Disqualified or
Entry: Rejected.

In the body of your post, include links to both the piece you submitted and the contest or publication to which you submitted it. If it was a Writing.com contest, use a {ritem:} link; if it was an outside contest or publication, include a www.[place].com link. This is necessary whether you submitted your piece online or by mail.
You MUST include this information or you will not be eligible for prizes.

Most important, in the text of your post, explain what happened! Why was your piece disqualified? Do you have any ideas why you were rejected? When did it happen? How did you react? There are prizes available for funny, clever posts in addition to great pieces, so make it happen! (See the
Prizes tab for guidance on structuring your post.)
Rules and Regulations

We will accept entries for Round 3 from Monday, August 10, until Monday, August 31. Each entrant may submit up to
two pieces; however, each piece must be submitted in its own post. Feel free to edit at any time, even past the deadline - especially if that's what got you into this mess!

Entries must be existing static items in the entrant's portfolio and linked via forum post. Please use a link that displays the item's rating, such as {ritem:##}, {bitem:##} or similar.

Entries may be short stories, poetry or articles, so long as they fit into one of the above three categories. We will not accept pieces longer than 30k for this round; however, all genres and ratings are accepted.

Contest host reserves the right to extend the closing date of the contest, or alter the prize package, if an insufficient number of entries are received. However, advance notice will be given in either of these events.
