![]() A very big thank you to iKïyå§ama "Kiya's Sig & Banner Shop" Welcome to this quiet corner of Writing.Com where I invite you to remember and honour those who have served and died in war. Their grandchildren are passing silently on, leaving few left to recall those days of terror, evil, courage and love. It is important that we remember our heroes. Every soldier who fought in those wars fought, and they were faithful to their cause, whether it was right or wrong. I think particularly of the past century, even beyond: World War I, – the 'Great War', – World War II, the Vietnam War and even as far back as the Boer War. I believe our society is changing, moving quickly and forgetting these important people who shaped the future and bought our freedom with a great price – the price of their lives. Not only do we remember the soldiers, we also remember the victims and the partisans, guerrillas, resistance fighters, doctors, nurses, medics, factory workers, secretaries, secret agents, and many more. So please, take time to write a note, link to a poem or story written by yourself or a friend, light a candle or just leave a rose on the global memorial stone. Let us never forget the price they paid for our sakes – the sakes of the future generations. Let us never forget the cost of our freedom. Let us never forget their courage. When you post, please – Be respectful, considerate and honouring, but – Do not be afraid to share a laugh. They would want us to. – Remember the E Rating of this forum. – Do not use this forum for political arguments. – Open your heart. There is no shame on this forum. – Light at least one candle. I strongly encourage you to visit these lovely tributes from the pens of writers who care and want others to as well. "Dusty Roads and Summer Kisses" "The Medal" "The K-Rations" "The Unknown Soldier" "The First Battle" "Forward, Onward, Homeward" "Confessions of an Antique Chair" "Invalid Item" "Hi Daddy" ""My Dad The Hero"" "A Hero Of 911" "Our Soldiers Fight For Life" "I AM THE ETERNAL SOLDIER " "A TRUE BAND OF BROTHERS " ""FREEDOM"" "HEROES" "BODY COUNT" In Flanders Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch, be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. – In Flanders Fields, by John McCrae. |
