Shadows and Light Poetry Contest

Do you love the challenge and creativity of free verse poetry? This contest is for you.

What is free form or free verse poetry? Well, the formal definition is poetry composed of either rhymed or unrhymed lines that have no set fixed metrical pattern. But the exact definition is written by the poet. Free form poetry has become the favored form for new and experienced poets alike. It provides the freedom of creativity, without the structure of traditional poetry.

However, it is deceptive in its simplicity, and can actually be very difficult. Do you have the skill to conquer this form of poetic expression? Have you mastered this art? Or do you just want to see if you are on the right track? This contest will put those skills to the test, and give you valued feedback from qualified judges. The prizes aren't bad either.

Contest begins at 12:00 AM WDC time on the 15th of each month and ends at 11:59 PM on the 14th of the next month.

Any subject and theme is acceptable. This is not a theme or prompt based contest.

Must not exceed a rating of 18+.

Must be 40 lines or fewer. Please give a line count at the bottom of your submission.

Can be old or new items, but must be in your portfolio.

Items with awardicons are accepted.

One entry per poet, per round.

Poems may not be resubmitted in future rounds once they have been judged.

Must be submitted in Bitem or Entry format. { bitem:xxxxxx} or { entry:xxxxxx} If you need help with bitem linking, please see "Newbie Hyperlinking 101 - Bitem Format"

Editing is allowed until the end of the contest. Judging will not be carried out until the current round is over.

Please ensure your poem is free verse (no consistent rhyming pattern) and 40 lines or fewer. If it isn't, it will be disqualified. I don't usually read the poems in advance, so I won't realise until it is too late.
