Vox is Latin for voice. Voxx is one of my all-time favorite LPs (yes, it's on an actual LP). Lady I suppose can be debated, but in general, it fits, I hope. I tend to be rather old-fashioned in some ways and feel that women should be ladies.
I have always, since I can remember, written creatively in one form or another. My earliest memory is writing musical plays for my siblings, cousins, and I to act out during our big family gatherings. You would never catch me performing in front of others now! But I'm still writing.
I went from those musicals to poetry (a not-great attempt at poetry, that is) to plays, then worked into novel-writing. That is my true love, although I still occasionally wander into short stories, poetry, and non-fiction. I believe that I write because I love to study people and relationships and I want to share what I see. Characterization comes much easier than description. I have a psychology degree that is so far being put to use only in my writing and parenting. It all relates.
I currently have two published novels available: Finishing Touches and Rehearsal: A Different Drummer. Info about both can be found in the "Novel Ambitions" folder, as well as on my website. I also recently published a children's picture book that was mainly a project for my family. It can be found here: www.lulu.com/lkhunsaker
In my non-writing life, I'm a mother (which shapes my life more than anything else I've done), a wife (of a military retiree, which shapes many of my attitudes), and an online network coordinator for a psychologist: www.cultureplay.com. My last out-of-the-home job was as an Infant Teacher, though I have also been a tax preparer and worked in customer service for a very short time. I love babies, but I didn't love being sick 95% of the year. *sigh* I enjoyed the work of doing taxes but not the rest of it. Customer service ... I hope I won't ever have to do that again and give lots of credit to anyone who can. It takes a special personality. My goal other than writing is to continue school and head toward Art Therapy, working with children.
Along with that, I have several projects with which I attempt to keep up:
...and a few other miscellaneous things I won't bore you with...
My major reading interests are literary fiction, especially the classics, art-related novels and art books, music biographies, historical novels, and anything well written that is not too explicit or violent. I don't like a bunch of flowery description that is there only to show the author's ability to use description. I like deep characterization.
Oh, my fave color is yellow and I'm music-obsessed.
I'm also very much into the Indie Arts of all kinds.
Check out my indie-publishing group (On Our Own) if you have interest in the topic.
I love communicating with people who share the same interests. Please, let me know you were here. Shout, sing, whisper ... whatever your forte happens to be ... and I'll return the visit. I review as often as possible. Leave a request, if you like, but beware, I tend to be thorough and honest, and I'm a Virgo perfectionist attuned to grammar.
For those reviewing my work, I appreciate complete honesty. I am very serious about improving and am not thrown off by somewhat negative comments. Please don't rate low without explanation, though! The ratings aren't what matter to me, but they aren't helpful without telling me why. I give GPs for reviews; the more helpful, the more GPs.
