I don't think the singer is worth more than the writer, but that's how society views it. The singer is very rarely all about the singing. There are some true artists, but there is also tons and tons of 'image' people.

The record companies are concerned with a comodity, not the art. So I guess the bottom line is that writers are under paid or maybe musicians are just way overpaid.
