Gold or True? By Phillip Layton (Farzwhal) Derek was on a mission. He quietly sipped on his beer, poring over the song codes in the laminated folder. "Hurry up, darling. The guy next to us wants to have a look." It was his wife Joanna, but he could only hear her faintly, as was the nature of his concentration. He could not multitask. He found it. There half way down the bottom, was the section devoted to Spandau Ballet. "I've found them!" He exclaimed. "I'll just write down the codes and you can give the book to the guy." He wrote the codes down to the two Spandau Ballet songs in the song list: "Gold" and "True". He was unsure which one he wanted to sing most as yet. He passed the book to his wife. Now he reached the most perplexing decision of the night: which song should he choose? He asked Joanna. "I don't know. True is more of a song about loss, while Gold is more inspiring." Derek asked himself the question - as a representation of his life to this moment, did he feel that he should preach about what he had lost to this point, or what he had gained? He felt that to preach about loss was false, as it suggested that life was all about loss, a depressing and not always true sentiment, regardless of the fact that "True" was the title of the song. However, to sing "Gold" he believed he might be over-inflating people with the notion of a golden life, not preparing them for hurt in any way. He made his way to the Karaoke counter and entered his choice. "Which song did you choose, Derek?" His wife asked. Derek smiled. "The true path. I will be singing both of them." END - 291 Words |
