Passkeys are only for viewing. For them to work, the item needs to be set private and the URL for the item must be given to you by the item owner. When viewing the URL, you'd enter the passkey where prompted.

To edit another person's item, you need to create a group and use Group Edit Access. You or the item owner needs to create a group with 2 people - you and the other person. Once in the group, the item owner needs to set the "Group Edit Access" setting on their item to allow you to edit it.
