<deep breath> 1.I consider all aspects; however, I don't count off heavily for title, brief description, genre errors, etc. I do let them know if I was searching for a short story and found poetry, or vice versa, and try to communicate how that can annoy some people, but I try to do it in a kindly, unannoyed way. 2. If the word is used so that I can deduce the meaning, no, although I do try to check to be sure it is being used appropriately. 3. I am not great at recognizing British spellings; however, if I find some words that I know to be British spellings, I do try to either verify the other spellings OR not count so much against spelling, depending on time constraints. I will say this site has helped me come to recognize British spellings much more than I used to. 4. If the foreign words are used appropriately, then I feel it enriches the piece; if they are randomly thrown in or I can't see a reason for it (ie if it switches languages midstream), I can't say I appreciate it. 5. I hope that my agree/disagree does not affect my R&R. I try to look at how well the author argued their points and if they provided a background. I have occasionally read items I disagreed with that I thought did a good job of stating their case and made some good points. Essays on reviewing are a good example of differences of opinion for me, LOL. However, I am human, so even though I try to ask "am I really looking at how this was presented, or am I upset/grumpy because I disagree?" I'm sure I make mistakes. I also have to confess that I am less likely to ask that if I agree, though I do still look at how well the point is presented. Or I try. 6. I prefer not to read profanity, so I tend to shy away from anything 18+ or higher, which keeps me out of that range. I think that profanity for profanity's sake is much like violence for violence sake - unnecessary and not adding to the story. I'm afraid I can't elaborate much more than that, since it's more of a 'feel' thing for me. On a side note, it's part of my Stephen King vs. Dean Koontz debate. I feel like King is a great writer, but tends towards, among other things, profanity for its own sake, wheras Koontz, though less famous, has some great plots and still manages to not abuse the profanity (and violence, and sexual issues) like King does. But that's a side note. 7. I am most comfortable commenting on the technicalities, in part, I think, because I am a math-minded person (strange on a writing site, I know). I am fairly comfortable with commenting on how it made me feel, especially if it really moved me in some way (anger, laughter, tears, etc), and I try to tell the author that as I review it. I am comfortable with commenting on how my attention was held (though I hate to say 'this was a boring piece' and prefer to cloak that sort of comment with 'you might make this more interesting by...' suggestions) and how well imagery was used. I'm not that good with the 'warm fuzzies', though I try to be positive. I rarely comment on something from my own experience because I don't think the writer would be interested, though I could be wrong. There are, of course, occasional exceptions to all of the above. 8. No. Most of my on-site friends already have a good idea of my reviewing technique anyway. I hope. 9. Nope. 10. I don't do anonymous reviews in general. I figure if someone wants to get upset or retaliate, oh well. I'm comfortable enough to handle it. 11. Nope, and I don't care if they do. I have a puffed up ego. 12. My only hope is that people will reciprocate in reviewing, not that they will say 'she gave me a 4.5, so I'll give her a 4.5'. And that they elaborate, of course. **************************************************************************************
