I am writing a novel involving time travel, but find myself lacking in historical knowledge. My time travelers need to move from Rome (around 100 A.D.) to California, USA (around 2200 A.D.). I need five interesting time periods within here, and I'm up for suggestions.
Take a minute to give me a place and time (you don't have to be exact), along with a line or two about what made that period so interesting. You don't have to be down-to-the-street-name specific; an example might be:
Southern US, 1852, pre-Civil War; one of your characters might be part of the Underground Railroad
or
France, 1940ish, invasion by German army, perhaps a link to the infamous Resistance
Your description has to move me in some way to check things out, to engage in research, an activity I despise. So please give me something interesting!
I'm trying to move in an East-West pattern, somewhat logically, over the course of the 2000 years or so. Your entries don't have to be in that pattern, as I will pick and choose and may select only one of your suggestions, but try not to jump out of the time period or location. No references to China or 2500 B.C., for instance.
Thanks for your help! If you are interesting in seeing my character development (and later, I hope, my setting development), please check out
