WRITING INSTRUCTORS NEEDED!
Rated: E | Survey Form | Educational | #1447896
Want to help other writers? New Horizons Academy is looking for a few great people!

*Star*  *Star*  *Star*  New Horizons Academy is looking for a few great people!  *Star*  *Star*  *Star*

We are interested in hiring qualified instructors & assistant instructors to teach in upcoming terms. When we refer to "qualified," we do not necessarily expect our staff members to have a college degrees. We are more interested in your experience, knowledge, and your ability to coach others in the technical elements of writing. We focus on punctuation, grammar, site navigation, & writing fundamentals in our courses.

*NoteB*  Would you like to create a course and be an Instructor one of the following areas?

*NoteG*  Do you have another course subject you would like to teach?

*NoteB*  Would you like to assistant another instructor in leading a class?

Below are a few of the courses we'd like to offer in the future.

*Star*   Use of Verbs  -  This course should be designed for students who want to strengthen the use of verbs in their writing, learn to identify passive voice, recognize when the active voice is a better choice, and incorporate that knowledge into their writing.  The course would begin with simple sentence structure and basic action verbs, verb tenses, and then focus on the important role the verb plays in writing.  This course should primarily be formatted and geared to prose writers.

*Star*   Writing for Children  -  This course should be designed to aid the student in writing for this unique genre.

*Star*   Poetry  -  This is a general term.  We are looking for several types of poetry instructors.

We are also looking for instructors to teach two courses we have in our catalogue already.

*Star*   The Grammar Garden & The Master Grammar Garden  -  The first is a basic course in English Grammar: excellent for review for all writers and a great course for ESL students who want to improve their English grammar.  The second course is advanced grammar studies dealing with complex sentences, compound sentences, complex-compound sentences, and dependent and independent phrases.  At this time, the Master Grammar course is only partially written and would need to be completed by the instructor taking over the course.

*Star*  *Star*  General Expectations for New Horizons Academy Instructors and Assistants  *Star*  *Star*

*NoteB*  Instructors must commit to teach for at least one entire term which is normally six to ten weeks, depending on the course schedule.

*NoteG*  Instructors must be willing to devote at least 5 hours a week to their students. This includes: posting lessons, moderating the course forum, evaluating students' assignments in a timely manner, and responding to questions or concerns from the students, as well as providing a weekly report of course status to the Administration.

*NoteB*  Assistant Instructors perform duties as assigned by the course Instructor. The time required each week will depend on the level of responsibility delegated to the assistant by the course instructor.

*NoteG*  Our courses run in six to eight week sessions, usually eight weeks. In most courses, students are allowed to work at their own pace within reason. We offer two weeks at the end of the term for our students to catch up and finish the classes.

*NoteB*  Our goal is for no student to fail. In fact, we do not give "grades" at all.  We do give detailed evaluations that help our students identify their strengths and capitalize on them, and guide them in understanding their weakness and working to transform them into strengths.

*NoteG*  We believe our students are here to learn the aspects included in the lessons. We believe each instructor's dedication to their students and clear directions are the key for a successful class.

*NoteB*  We expect our instructors and assistants to encourage their students and offer constructive feedback when evaluating students' assignments.

*NoteG*  We expect our instructors to work independently and lead their classes in a professional manner. It is imperative for our instructors to check their e-mail and their course forum on a regular basis.  Checking in once a week will not work for any of our courses.

*NoteB*  We expect our Instructors to ask the administrators for assistance when and if they cannot check on their classes. The New Horizons Academy Administration staff is available to assist instructors at any time throughout the term.

*NoteG*  New Instructors who have not been an assistant at New Horizons Academy prior to instructing a course are required to complete the New Horizons Academy Instructor Training Course before them begin teaching.  It is a self-paced course that can be taken at any time.

If you meet and can commit to the requirements listed above and are interested in joining the New Horizons Academy staff, please complete and submit the application survey below.
