EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SQUIRREL... But were afraid to ask! THERE ONCE WAS A SQUIRREL.....You've heard of a fairy tale, which starts out Once Upon a Time. And a sailor's tale, which starts out This be the God's Honest truth. But this is neither of those types of stories. This is a Squirrel's Tail. It all started 546 years ago when Darkin was born in an old oak tree on an acorn farm in Missouri. The youngest of seventy-two offspring, she spent her childhood frolicking carefree with her siblings until tragedy befell her happy home. ![]() Awww, wasn't she such a sweet baby??? The Great Acorn Famine swept the countryside, bringing with it dashed hopes and dreams of the poor acorn farmers. Among those ruined by it was the kind and good Farmer Ohmay, who ran the acorn farm where Darkin's family tree stood. Now poor Farmer Ohmay found himself unable to pay his mortgage, which made the bank foreclose on his farm. The bank put his farm on the market and ended up selling it to the evil and ruthless Mr. Shawks, who developed the entire land into a vacation time share community. Suddenly, Darkin and her entire family found themselves without a home. The construction company bulldozed her tree without so much as a peep from the tree people. Her family scattered, some of them moving to New York - like her cousin Vinnie - while others were destine to roam the countryside looking for acorn handouts. Darkin, heartbroken and acorn-less, traveled across the country, finding odd jobs along the way. In Tulsa, she worked as a dish rag for a greasy spoon. In Atlanta she was a mop at an elementary school. But deep down, she knew she was destine for great things. The one day, she came across a strange place. It was a city unlike any she had ever been to, a magical place where everyone was welcome, regardless of their species. She found, in this magical Scrollville, her new home. ![]() A more recent photograph of the squirrel And even today, you can find this squirrel living in the tree growing in the center of Scrollville. And, if you are lucky, she might come down for a visit. To learn more about Darkin, visit:
