We 5, we lucky 5 ... Thanks to everyone who participated in this! Even though, technically, the Brigade did get wiped out in the end, Realms of Fantasy was brought back better than ever by Kim Richards-Gilchrist and William Gilchrist of Damnation Books LLC! So I'm just gonna go ahead and take credit for its resurrection anyway. Because that's how I do. :P ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Realms of Fantasy is one of the best fantasy magazines ever printed; with a glossy cover, highly talented artists, and stories that will knock your socks off. Realms hosts such authors as Harlan Ellison, Tanith Lee, and Cat Rambo and artists such as Frank Wu, Gallegos, and Carol Heyer. You would think, with a magazine as professionally artistic and literary in the Fantasy field, that it would be thriving in spite of today’s economy. Well, you would be wrong. Realms of Fantasy is still teetering on the brink of closing. Although sales at both bookstores and subscriptions have increased this past year, its subscription base hasn’t built up as much as needed to maintain its services. To put it bluntly, Realms of Fantasy needs subscriptions, badly. In April 2009, Realms of Fantasy closed. It wasn’t making enough to sustain itself. Some might say that in this economy, that is reasonable, but it shocked the SFF world. How could such a quality magazine go under? Sure, times are tough. The economy is in a sinkhole. No, they didn’t mismanage their affairs. Even national newspapers closed, some going all electronic. Realms of Fantasy succumbed to what every other print magazine and newspaper had to deal with, falling sales and subscriptions. Thanks to the outcry from Fantasy and Science Fiction fans around the world, through blogs and Facebook, Realms of Fantasy was reinstated and is enjoying a modicum of success. However, Realms just released a letter asking for support. They are about to tip into that chasm of death most print productions have fallen into and where Realms only recently climbed out of. In their letter, Realms of Fantasy is asking for more subscribers. If you are a fan of great Fantasy stories and art, then please, consider subscribing to Realms of Fantasy. Subscription bases are what keep magazines alive. And even if not, isn't it incumbent upon all us Speculative Fiction writers to help keep markets open? -Pat Hauldren, Dallas Speculative Fiction Examiner Join the Realms of Fantasy Brigade, get a year's worth of glossy, full color art and great fiction, and help us defend the existence of one of the very few remaining professional fantasy magazines. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** then E-mail The Last Browncoat ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **
