  This is a book about...

This book is a study of the development of human faith. Fowler describes faith as the thing that gives meaning to life.
Although Fowler is a self-proclaimed Christian he does not frame his definition of faith from the Christian perspective.

He does not limit the definition of faith to religious faith of any kind. He was critisized for this, but it does make the book applicable to anybody.

The text correlates other developmetal theories to give a good general view of maturity. Daniel Levinson, Jean Piaget, Lawrence Kohlberg, and Erik Erikson are all considered in Fowler's summing up of the human phenomonon of growing up.

This book can help the reader understand where he is in life and what he needs to work on.

  I especially liked...

The charts that compared the theories.

  I didn't like...

the boring parts, but I skipped them and came back later.

When I finished this book I wanted to...

give a two hour workshop on developmental theory.

  This book made me feel...

that I understood more about myself, and more about the people I love.

  The author of this book...

explained faith and maturity in very down to earth terms. Some passages soared in their anticipation of our final outcome.

  I recommend this book because...

it is instructive about gaging progress in life and identifying where the work needs to be done.

  Further Comments...

This book is academic. The vocabulary is rather difficult, but it helps you grow.
