Dirk and I knew each other in high school. After we graduated in 1965, aged 17, we didn't see each other again until we met at my Dad's place in 2001.

Dirk had been a friend of Dad's for a few years, and lived quite close by. I had been teaching and living interstate, in remote Aboriginal communities, and only got to see Dad a couple of times a year.

After we met, Dirk and I began e-mailing. I'd given up teaching and could move to be with Dirk in 2004. We were married in March 2005.

This photo was taken by one of Dirk's sons on our wedding day. I'm a lucky woman!
