A Veteran at the Memorial 1
World War II Memorial, Washington DC

This veteran had just lain a red rose at the part of the monument reading, "Here we mark the price of freedom." I had to wonder how many of his friends he lost in the war and what he was thinking as he offered this tribute. The sadness and pride mingled in his expression as he walked slowly away, the dark red of his dress uniform matching the rose.
