"The Aimless Journey"

Speckled sunshine filters down
Peeking through the leafy trees.
The rays hit the road that I follow,
Going nowhere in particular.

The drive matching the day's journey
Thoughts scatter through my mind.
Memories overwhelm me emotionally.
She has left us.

She's departed this painful life
For a much better place.
Past adventures play like a slide show before me.
I continue to drive aimlessly.

Thinking of the former days provokes the tears.
She had been so full of life
Such a short time ago.
But she has breathed her last breath.

Gentle wind flows through the car
While the rose I brought with me from the cemetery
Slowly wilts on the seat beside me.
No life left in it. So I drive without cause.

Her life was full of purpose.
She lived for others ~ always.
Her own mother outliving her.
A tragedy to lose such a selfless spirit.

Kindness, caring, compassion and love.
She was all of these.
So many lives made better for having known her.
The epitome of a saintly life.

Birds now overheard in the treetops.
Rejoicing in her ascension ~ no more pain.
But my drive continues
As the sun goes down.

My tears continue to fall.
I miss her. I will always miss her.
I look forward to seeing her again
When my time comes.

Until then, I will drive...
Wandering aimlessly,
And searching unceasingly,
In this journey of life.

Dedicated to my Aunt Linda June 14, 1950 ~ May 18, 2007
She touched the lives of so many in her selfless acts.
She will be remembered always.
