Soldier and a Coyote
Soldier and a Coyote

Soldier is our Australian
Shepherd who was adopted by our
Great Dane Thor.

(Soldier, I’m so sorry that you’re unhappy.
Everyday I see the longing in sad eyes
For your lost lady-friend we took away.)

The picture below is Soldier, the
Inspiration behind this sad Poem.  And a snapshot we
took of the female Coyote he ran with that we suspected
was his chosen mate.  We had 53 acres on a ranch in
Red Creek, here in Colorado, and we have since sold the
property, and he still pines for her.

ps.  It is not unusual when domesticated dogs mate with their wilder cousins, like the Wolf, or, as Soldier did, he was lured by the wiles of a Coyote.  I’m sure they had a litter of cubs, a mix of Coyote and Australian Shepherd.  Soldier never got to know them or help to raise them.

The drawbacks of being a dog torn in his world.
