"The Man I Trust the Most"
"A Poem of Thanks to my Dad"

Hello! I am twelve years old.
O! So sorry, I forgot to say
My name is Christy and I’m twelve years old.
If my mother could hear me now
There would be such a row
“You are not a child any more”.

On days like this
I miss my Dad the most.
He would never say that to me
He would rather hold my hand
As he talks to say;
It’s ok to be a child when you are twelve.

Dad always protected me
From the mother who never loved me
Always putting me down
As a stupid clown
Not being allowed to be a child
That will embarrass her.

Where is my Dad today?
Well! That’s a sorry tale.
He saw my mother walking in the park
Laughing and smiling
Holding hands with another guy
Who stopped and kissed her on the way.

I’ll never forget that day
When he came home and cried on my shoulder
Saying; “Christy I love you so”
But please understand, I must go away
To find another home that will be safe
For you and me to live and play.

Well! I'm still waiting and praying
As my mother and her boyfriend
Scold me for being a fool
To think that he will ever come back for me
So I hide away
Wishing I could die.

Then I hear a knock on the door
It’s the Sheriff and my Dad
With an interdict that will set me free
To be the little girl that loves her Daddy.
Now can you see he never lied to me?
He loves me more than you will ever know.

Today! I’m married and have children of my own
Who love to play with their granddad
Before he takes them up to bed to pray
It's time to say; "Thank you"
To the man we trust the most.
