Cool, clear blue water Yet, what did it matter? Mist rising at dawn I can't help but yawn. Up before anyone else, Just to have time to myself; Walking to the end of the pier I caught site of a deer. Wounded she lay down I thought sure she'd drown. No, you can't go this way I heard myself say. Racing to the water's edge I made her a solemn pledge, If she didn't make it until dawn, I'd care for her fawn. Today I shed a tear For it's been a year My heart full of woe, I bid her go. My promise fulfilled I feel a sudden chill As mist rises at dawn I say goodbye to the fawn. Sipping hot coffee Taking time for me Sitting at the end of the pier Gazing at the water so clear. |
