Mountains Rise from Water
The mountains rise straight up from the inlet water.

In this scene the mountains rise straight up from the water of the Turnagain Arm (an inlet from the ocean that extends hundreds of miles north). Everywhere the mountains seem to grow from the fjords, the inlets, the bays, the arms. The bases have little or no area between the mountain and the water.

This shot was taken from the highway as we traveled to Seward, Alaska. ~ July 12, 2003
