A glacier, an extremely slow moving river of ice, takes centuries to move a few feet, but that river moves ever toward the sea. According to scientists, the glaciers move forward for ages, then recede for eons, then increase again. This photo shows the ice river reaching the fjord called Blackstone Bay. Fjords are bodies of water in areas cut from the earth by glaciers.
