This illustration is for "A Mermaid's Brother," the tale of a little boy who thinks he'd like to be a different animal so his brother would treat him better.
This picture of an old, gray squirrel is an illustration of the on in the boy's backyard. You can see the nuts lying all around. I wonder what kind they are. Can there be nuts with green foilage? I wanted to make the tree look more like fall, but the rest of the pictures were all of spring. Oh, well. I think these are old nuts, that are still lying around. I hope the squirrel doesn't get sick. Are old nuts okay for squirrels?
I made this illustration first with pencil and then with watercolor paints, a black marker, and a little computer enhancement so the colors would shine.
