Singing Tower
The center of Bok Sanctuary

Ah, the Singing Tower at Bok Sanctuary. It is truly a sight to behold, standing rock steady at over 200 feet tall even after surviving three hurricanes during Hurricane Season 2004. Sure, it took a beating, but even while on peninsular Florida's highest point, it has prevailed to bring to us some of the most beautiful, haunting music ever heard.

What makes the music? There is a carillon housed in this behemoth tower. Essentially, it is 60 bells that are controlled by a clavier that produce melodies with a church-bell tone. http://www.boktower.org/visiting/singing.html is an excellent link for finding out more about the secrets that hide in the tower, especially in regards to the carillon. It is played on a daily basis to signal the hour and for carillon music to entertain the visitors of the sanctuary.

This tower was extremely fascinating to photograph, as I took about twenty pictures of it when I visited the sanctuary in November 2004. However, this is one of my favorite shots, as I managed to get the whole tower into the frame, a feat that was a little bit of a challenge. How did I do it? Well, for one, I didn't use the panoramic setting. No, that's cheating.*Bigsmile* I actually took the picture lying down about 100 feet from the tower's base, tilting the camera upwards almost to a 45 degree angle. I may have gotten dirty to get this shot, but it was well worth it in the end.
