In the shirt pocket Jason felt something, and realised it was another note. "Use this," it read in his grandma's handwriting, and it was wrapped around a brand new credit card in his name. Flabbergasted, he stopped dead at the bottom of the stairs. Wow, he said to himself. He noticed that the note continued. “Don’t run up crazy bills, but don’t starve yourself, either. Call me so we can do lunch someday soon,” the note concluded.
“Oh, I won’t starve myself,” Jason said quietly to himself. He thought about Grandma, and about her comment that he looked just like Grandpa. His grandpa had died before he was born, of a rare disease, and the only picture Jason had ever seen showed a happy, husky man on his wedding day. He wondered if Grandpa had been as big as him - or even bigger? He and Grandma had gotten married really young, just after he came back from the war. He hadn’t gotten married in his military uniform - Grandma had told Jason once that it no longer fit him - but she’d never told him much else about his Grandpa. Grandma had taken the wholesale business he’d started and made a good thing of it, before selling out to ‘enjoy her time with her grandchildren’. He hadn’t ever really thought about how much his Grandma must be worth, but it must be substantial - and she was willing to trust him with a share.
Feeling incredibly buoyed by the discovery of the note and the credit card - and the great fit of the new clothes - Jason practically bounded out the door of the frat house. He headed down the street...
