Chapter 10: Mother Knows Best   (ID #494224)

“I should of let Dr. Papas stomp on them all at the museum,” Creepie muttered under her breath and looked behind her. The students were all freaking out after meeting her bug family. Most were scared, but a few stared at her like she was some kind of freak. Creepie huffed in indignation, who were they to judge her? So her family was a little strange, that was no reason to treat her like a leper. Their ungratefulness and rude behavior was getting on the last of her patience, and she wasn’t the only one. Her bug brothers and sisters were abuzz (no pun intended) about the tiny humans in their home and what their presence meant.

Most everyone in the Dweezwold Mansion was an orphan raised by Vinnie and Caroleena, their biological parents left some of them, but most had lost their parents at the hands of humans. Fly swatters, shoes and human hands had taken so many of their kin, and now that the shoe was on the other foot, many of the Mansions residence were thinking about revenge. Creepie looked at her classmates and knew without a doubt that if it came down to it, she’d join her bug siblings in the lynching. Blood was thicker then water, even when the blood pumped under an exoskeleton.

“Creepie, may I speak to you privately?” Her mother suddenly asked softly. Creepie peeked back at her classmates, seeing them too busy in gossiping about how much of a freak she was to notice if she disappeared for a little while. Nodding to her mother, Creepie and Caroleena left the students behind to talk privately somewhere else.

“What is it mom?” Creepie asked and sat down on a thimble beside her towering bug mother. She had always wanted to have a mother daughter talk with the bug that had raised her, but had always felt awkward having to look down to talk with her. It just felt right now that Creepie was the one looking up when they talked.

Caroleena sighed and looked at her beautiful daughter. She was so proud of her for being able to go from human size to bug size without any difficulty. All she wanted right now was to spend time with her and do the things their size never let them do, but she was the matron of Dweezwold and had matters to attend to first. “It’s about the human’s you brought home with you. Me and your father told you when you went out into the human world to try and keep an open mind and be friendly, but I afraid I have to tell you that…”

“…They're pests and they have to go,” Creepie finished, not shocked at all about what her mother had said. After all, she was feeling the same way. Humans were never meant to live in Dweezwold, they only made an acceptation for Creepie because she had been a baby when she arrived and not corrupted by the human world. The people that Creepie had brought into their home saw every bug in this house, as not worth the sweat it would take to swat them. It angered Creepie so much to see them dismiss her family as nothing but pests. Personally, Creepie would choose a bug over a human any day.

“I see were on the same page,” Caroleena said and patted her daughters head. “We need to get rid of them. Not only are they annoying, but they could endanger the family if they ever returned to normal. If we kick them out of the house they won’t last an hour in the human world at their size, but I think that would be cruel and such a waste.”

“Waste?” perplexed Creepie asked. Caroleena smiled slyly, showing off her pointed fangs.

“Yes, a waste. It’s not everyday prey just wanders into our house. We have so many hungry mouths to feed that we can’t simply let them go. Also personally, I’ve always wondered what a human tasted like.”

Caroleena tapped her green stomach, calculating how many calories were likely in a shrunken pre-teen. Creepie looked at her mother as she thought about eating her classmates, with her mouth hanging open in shock. She snapped her mouth closed and slowly said to her.

“Mom, that is…”
