Chapter 14: No more tears   (ID #303729)
an addition by: chaos  More by this author

A man stood before a line of unmarked graves. His demeanor was dour and his mind in turmoil. He didn’t know why he had come here, there were no bodies buried under these head stones. The N2 mine had eradicated them to the bone, leaving only dust where the few people left he loved had stood. These were just cheap gimmicks to remind the mourners that the people they had cared about had existed. Wasn’t that the only thing the humanity really wanted in the end, to have proof of there own existence on this dismal hunk of rock.
“I know this is a cemetery, but your acting more depressing then needed.”
“Sorry, it’s just it all seems like a shame. Some of these people deserved to live, Misato deserved to live. But some barmy bastard with dreams of being God crushed them for no real reason.”
“Everyone that dies deserves to live, we can’t control whether they survive. That is left up for them to decide.”
“It’s still not fair.”
“Not much is in life.”
“….”
“You said some of these people deserved to live, are two of them ‘her’ and ‘him’?”
“She might have been a brat and a pain, but she had some good moments. Maybe she would have been a fine person if her mother hadn’t screwed her up so more or maybe if she had never heard of Eva or maybe if she had tried not to think of herself all the time?”
“There are a lot of maybes in life, but she choose to think of only herself and feel to pieces when her life didn’t turn out the way she wanted.”
“True, but she wasn’t a monster. Not like ‘him’.”
“I take it he isn’t one of the people that should have survived?”
“Yes… No… I’m not sure. He abandoned me to create a clone of my mother to help him destroy the world, he isn’t the type of man that many people mourn.”
“But you mourned him.”
“…. Yes.”
“I guess that in some small part of your heart you still loved him.”
“Well, you should know what’s inside my heart, we’re sharing the thing.”
The seventeenth Angel, the last Angel to attack NERV, the only Angel to defend it, hadn’t been able to shield itself from the explosion caused by the N2 mine, but he had been able to shield one person. That person had walked away with not a scratch on him, but he had wept like no other time. His tears would of gone on forever is no for the Angels other act. The seventeenth Angel had briefly that person’s soul and had left the connection with the person even as their bodies were separated. When the seventeenth Angel’s body was destroyed, he transferred his whole soul into the person, also giving him the enormous power that resided inside him. The power would let the person live on forever, with the seventeenth Angel forever with him in his soul.
“I love you Kawaru.”
“I love you Shinji.”
