Tabitha was growing at a rate of 15 feet a day.She wanted to wait until she was big enough to attack so she get John back. the tension was killing her. She could just imagine what was happening to him. She swore if he was hurt she would rip them up to shreds.
She also was able to make herself basic clothes out of things she found in the woods. She knew that she needed to leave soon. The woods didn't have enough food to feed her. All the animals around her were starving. She had sympathy for them so she tried to restrict how much she ate.
