Gemma then started the journey to the mountains with the two Jameses. At first everything was going well. They were making good ground and the mountain wasn't too far away.
But a few hours later a storm came in producing thunder, lightning, rain and powerful winds. The winds were so powerful that it threw Gemma off balance a little.
She could keep traveling in this weather and it was also hazardous to the Jameses. She decided that it was best to stay somewhere to shelter from the storm. But finding somewhere big enough was going to be tricky.
Gemma kept the men safe in her hands as she went near the mountain. She couldn't climb it in the storm but there was a cave large enough for them to fit in. She quickly got inside and she put the men on the ground.
"We'll have to stay here while the storm's brewing outside," said Gemma.
"We can't stop," replied Charlotte's James. "My wife's dying."
"And if we try to climb that mountain we'll be blown off and killed. Just go to sleep and reserve some energy for the climb."
