This choice: At a meeting of team 7 the next day, Sakura finds out about the two dates | Go Back

  Chapter 139: Meetings   (ID #555176)
an addition by: who-me  More by this author

The next morning came to Konoha. She came to a realization from some strange and disturbing dreams. She would never know how deep she felt about either boy if she didn't press the relationship with them. Considering what Neji told her, Sakura would ask Sasuke out during a meeting they'd have with Kakashi that morning.

As Sakura walked down the street, she saw Temari and Shikamaru.

"I told you I wanted some good fruit for breakfast you lazy bum!" Temari yelled as they were sitting on a bench, having a morning snack.

"Geese, all they had were apples. They wouldn't have the plums or pears in until next week," Shikamaru said.

"Hi you two," Sakura said, smiling.

"Oh hi Sakura," Temari said, smiling, "How are you doing?"

"I'm great. But if I do't hurry, I'll be late for a meeting with Kakashi," Sakura said.

'Even as the Hokage, he's late," Shikamaru said, "I wouldn't worry about it."

"Yeah, but he might restrict our missions if one of us is late. Neither of the guys would like that," Sakura said, hurrying on. Temari laughed, before going back to scolding her soon-to-be husband about what fruits she liked, again.

When Sakura got to Kakashi's office, Naruto and Sasuke were waiting for her. Kakashi wasn't there yet.

"You're almost late," Sasuke said.

"I ran into Shikamaru and Temari," Sakura said, "I got chatting for a minute. So sue me."

"Anyway, what are we here for at this hour of the day?" Naruto wondered aloud.

"I called you here," Kakashi said, appearing from no where. "I just wanted to tell you about another mission I have planned."

"All ready? We just got back yesterday," Naruto said. Everyone looked shocked. Naruto was complaining about being assigned a mission?

"Well, this one won't be for a few days," Kakashi said, "As you know, Shikamaru and Temari's wedding is coming up. What you don't know is how many important official of the Fire County's government will actually be attending. Two days before the event, you three will escort them to the village and back to the capital after the reception."

"Will we have any aid?" Sasuke asked.

"Considering the delicacy of this mission, yes. We don't want to take any chances, so you will have to pick three more people to help," Kakashi said. The three exchanged glances. Without much talking, they came to a relative idea of who to bring along.

"Neji would be good," Naruto said.

"Asuma would also be a good choice," Sasuke said.

"And Iruka," Sakura said. Kakashi nodded.

"Good choices," Kakashi said, "That's all for today." They could see a smile beneath his masked face. He turned the chair and pulled out one of his favorite Icha Icha books. His former students left quickly, not wanting to disturb him.

"That was interesting," Naruto said.

"Yeah, I'm surprised you didn't pick Hinata," Sasuke said, "You two seemed close yesterday."

"Well, we are friends," Naruto said.

"Why didn't you want a mission today?" Sakura said, interjecting.

"Because I have a date tonight," Naruto said. Both his teammates stopped in their tracks.

"With who?" Sakura asked, shocked.

"Hinata," Naruto said. "It just sort of came up as we were talking yesterday." It was then he noticed Sasuke chuckling.

"That's too ironic," Sasuke said, "I also have a date tonight. Mine's with Ino."

"What?!" Sakura gasped, "When did that happen?"

"As I was walking home," Sasuke said.

"That is funny," Naruto said, "So, uhh, where should I take Hinata?" Both Sakura and Sasuke exhanged glances. They shouldn't of been surprised by his question, this was Naruto after all. But even after more than a decade working together, he still found something to say that made them speechless. Neither responded and just vanished, leaving Naruto alone in the lobby of the Hokage's mansion.
