Charlette could not focus through the rest of the class, could not think. All she could think about where those horrible words flowing softly into her ear. She looked up and realized that time was moving too fast. She became less rigid and more panicky, her head darting around for an escape. If she ran she would be eaten, if she stayed she would be eaten… what could she do! She fiddled with her skirt as she looked at the clock again, 1 minute to go… how could that be, she thought to herself in despair. She clenched her eyes shut wishing for time to stop, her fists balled tight and shaking but she heard the bell and the shuffling of children as they moved out the room. She kept her eye’s shut, hoping it would make the problem go away. If she didn’t leave the classroom, she couldn’t be eaten she thought to herself with desperate hope. Then she heard the teacher in a very matter of fact, dreary tone, “It doesn’t look like she is going to leave Tira. You may as well eat her here… would you like a little privacy?”

Charlette gave a startled jump as she felt Tira’s hands on her shoulder and she heard Tira in a light chirpy tone…
