It was warm and fluffy against his fur, and for a moment he nearly mistook it for his bed. He yawn's, realizing how tired he was.
"I'll decide what to do tomorrow," he decides, and falls fast asleep.
John dreamed of standing in an open field, full of flowers, and butterflies. He was still the same gray striped kitten he had turned into earlier, and in this dream; he was a cat all along. Like any old kitten, he ran around and chased the little insects, which struggled and bounced against his paws. In this world he truly felt free and blessed, happy to be an independent creature that needed no one. Or, maybe he did? He stopped in place and let the grasshopper go. There was one thing wrong in this dream. It wasn't that he was a human who had been turned into a cat through some stroke of luck. It wasn't because he was dreaming of another world. It was because he was alone. He was a house cat, not a stray. Cats were the most solitary yet human independent creatures on this Earth. He was yearning for a companion, someone to hold him and pet him and love him to all eternity. Isn't that what a cat always wanted? To re-witness the same feeling that was there when it was born? He turned around, as if to run back to his house, but it wasn't there. It was just another field that stretched on for miles. Maybe being a cat wasn’t so great after all?
John woke up with a jowl. He was locked within a dark, cramped closet, and for a moment he thought he was alone again until his sister appeared.
“What do you want?” she yelled to him. “Can’t you see that I’m asleep?”
“Meow!” he yelled back in protest. He remembered now. He wasn’t dreaming anymore, he was still a human and he had a sister. Who, so happens, turns out to be the most I-Hate-Being-Woken-Up person ever. “Meow!” he yelled again.
“Are you hungry or something?”
“Meow!” he said, John meant to say, I’m lonely can I please get out of this closet? But instead his stomach rumbled.
“Hang on, I’ll get you something.” She walked out, still mumbling. “Stupid cat.”
A moment later John sat staring wide eyed at a huge sugar glazed doughnut.
“This is all I can find since I already drank all the milk.”
John was delighted. If everyday promises a huge doughnut, then maybe being a cat wasn’t so bad after all! He took a bite, and immediately became sad. The doughnut was dry and tasteless against his mouth. Now he understood what the dream was about. His mind was becoming that of a cat! This was enough! He had to find a way to tell his sister to find a way to turn him back. Before he was a feline forever! Where will this story go next? Your choices are below...
