Scar was torn about his queen's behavior. On the one paw, she certainly was beautiful. He himself had never had much use for eating, seeing it more as an annoying necessity than a pleasure. Still, he was impressed by Nala's willingness to completely give her life over to fulfilling (and more than fulfilling) her most basic desires, without a thought for the rest of the world. It was a shame that she was far too heavy to ever have cubs; Scar would have loved to bring more lions just like her into the world. Her hugely fattened body definitely didn't hurt his opinion of her, either. When he'd first started fattening her up, more than a year ago now, he had expected that she would quickly become ugly as she gained weight, but that hadn't happened at all.

On the other paw, though, he had groomed her to be his companion, not just a pretty object. The rest of the pride didn't like him much, and the feeling was definitely mutual. Therefore, he didn't have anyone to talk to besides the hyenas, and hyenas were dumb as rocks. He'd put so much work into making Nala just like him. He loved her for her unbridled gluttony, but he couldn't have it completely overtake the wonderful personality he'd worked so hard to shape. So he plotted about what was the best way to bring his queen back to reality.
