Sarafina said something about how the two of them really must go on a walk that afternoon, so as soon as she left, Nala settled down for a nap, partly to conserve her energy, and partly to give her mysterious benefactor time to leave her a more substantive meal.
When she woke up, it didn't look like there was anything waiting for her at the mouth of the cave, but she waddled over just in case. Sure enough, tucked away where she wouldn't have been able to see it was...a dik-dik, one of the stupid little pygmy antelopes that warned away better game with its obnoxious clicking. Nala ate it in a few mouthfuls, and wondered what the heck had happened. No food would have been less of a disappointment than this tiny thing. But then, much to her surprise, she saw a tommie, a gazelle not much bigger than the dik-dik she'd just eaten, lying several meters away from where she stood.
Curious, she made her ponderous way over to it. No one was anywhere near it, and the pride usually didn't just leave food lying in the middle of the living area. Figuring that she might as well not let it go to waste, she downed it as well. It was hardly more satisfying than the dik-dik had been. But there was an aardvark a few meters further on, and then an impala, and then a warthog (don't worry, no one important!). By the time she'd stumbled down to the oryx carcass that was beyond the warthog, she was well out of Pride Rock.
As she chowed down on the oryx, she felt her paws leave the ground. Her belly had hung lower and lower as she made her way though each successive animal, but this was the first time that day that she had immobilized herself. Immobility was still a fantastic feeling, and ordinarily, she would be thrilled if she managed to get this much to eat, but she suspected that there were more animals further on, and it would be a shame if she wasn't able to get to them.
Sure enough, when she finished off the oryx, Nala could see another carcass lying just out of easy sight range. She couldn't tell exactly what it was, but even though she was stuffed full, she knew she wanted to eat it. Where will this story go next? Your choices are below...
