"So..." Mai said, a sheepish look on her face, "ready to talk?"
Naruto nodded
"Would you like to go first?"
Mai nodded, she was ready to have an intimate conversation with him.
"From early on, I was taught to be the picture of an obedient girl. I was a rich only child who got anything I wanted. As long as I behaved...and sat still?and didn't speak unless spoken to. My mother said I had to keep out of trouble. We had my Dad's political career to think about. The only person who could get me to express myself before you came along was former boyfriend Zuko, Azula's brother. Azula, Ty lee and I have been friends since...I can't remember how long. We went our seprate ways after we graduaited from the Royal Fire Accemey for Girls, Ty lee when off and joined the circuse, Azula stayed with her family, and I was sent off with my family after my dad was made a govoner. I found out from Azula that Zuko was banished by his dad for speaking out in a war meeting. I can't remember crying so much, that made feeling much of anything even harder, it convinced me emotions were painful and something that life would be better off without. My dad was made the govener of the city of Omashu after the king there surendered, after that Azula and Ty Lee came back into my life with a mission to help capture the Avatar, I was board out of my mind at the city and I'm sure you know by now, Azula's not the type that takes 'no' for an answer. We chased the Avatar and his friends for a while, eventually running into Zuko again, his banishment was revoked after Azula told her dad some fib about how he got rid of the Avatar. For a while, I was acctualy happy. sure me and Zuko had a few minor squabbles, but that was easy to deal with. It didn't last, Zuko turned on his dad, then ran off to join the Avatar and his friends, he didn't even say good-bye in person, he just left me a note telling me about it. Sorry if all my problems stem from Zuko, but I cared about him and he tore my heart out. After all that, Azula found you and...well, you know the rest."
Naruto nodded, going back into...that place...was never a good thing. That dark, cold, empty, lonely pit in the bowles of hell. He'd been there and he knew what it was like. he couldn't help it...he shuddered as he remembered the sheer loathing he had for that place. He was also feeling sheer disgust twords Mai's so-called parents, he knew he'd never be able to understand what having parents do something like that to you was like, but still...who chose political statuse over family?!?!?!? After she finished, Naruto looked Mai in the eye and told her everything about his life, how had had no parents to begin with, how his earliest memories were from members of the noble families in the village trying at assinate him when he was only a year old, the attack by the nine-tailed fox being why everyone hated him becouse of how all becouse he was born on the same day and how it had given them the idea that if they killed him, the fox demon would never have shown up at all.Obviously, the Third Hokage; also known as Sarutobi Sasuke, had passed a law forbidding anyone from talking about the accursed fox and his attack. Of course, this meant that Naruto had no idea why everyone gave him regular beatings, why everyone glared at him; why everyone hated his guts. It was no secret that Mitokado Homura and Utatane Koharu; heads of the village's council held a strong dislike for Naruto and did anything in their power to make his life a living hell or get an execution. In fact, they sometimes sent ANBU to assassinate him behind the Hokage?s back. Of course, they would always be caught and the Sandaime passed new orders to murder anyone who spills the secret or attacks Naruto. Needless to say; there were several ?mysterious? deaths regularly. Naruto was shunned by everyone, both peers and everyone else except for a few people, how thay saved him from that dark place. All of his life up to this point she learned it all, poor boy had wanted to vent all this for years, that was painfully obvious.
" Like I said, I know that being alone sucks more than I'd like, I've been in that place before, I know what its like, what it dose to people. I was lucky. Mai, here's what I know from having to go through all that: When you've spent your whole life surrounded by the darkness of the human heart, having people that you care about and care about you in turn is like being able to cluch a star in your bare hands. I'll remain by your side just so you don't need to be alone for as long as I have a say in the matter." Naruto finished.
Mai hugged him and held him close, and whispered in his ear something that made him smile.
"If that's what its like, I just found a star to hold onto."
