Still the proposition is easier said than done, as you are still lost in the forest. However, remembering the days in which you hunt with your father you are still able to go to the west. More or less, I mean.
And so, you guide the boy the best part of the day until you arrive to the edge of the forest. Before you you can recognize the familiar look of the Ork-Head rock. Not the official name of that hill, but the one most people use. There are still five miles to the hill through a hard a difficult path. From its vantage point you would be able to watch Fort Audentar. Then, there would be another three miles till you actually reach the Fort.
Or, you could take an easier but slightly longer route around the Ork Head.
