In chains and in this cell you feel there is nothing you can do. Resigned you wait to see what fate has in store for you. Maybe you will find a kind master and, in any case you will be alive. You feel that is good enough, the best deal you have managed to barter off Death.
Hours give way to days. Every morning you are given a bit of gruel that's all. Prince Allan proves to be a fine chap; not once he blames you, not once he looks you down. He cries but only as much a every child here, and many of the adults too.
You don't know how many days have passed, but at least two weeks judging by the size of your beard, when the barred iron door is finally opened and two merchants, escorted by twelve guards come in.
"Who are they?," you ask to a companion.
"Hush, the Lord of the Arenas, they are looking for new gladiators."
"A gladiator," you think, "a last chance to prove my worth with a sword and maybe win my freedom. The public cheering, the applause of the masses, the glory, and if the worst happens a swift death".
...but, you'd have to abandon the prince... However even if you remain there is no guarantee they would not sell you separately or send you to the mines or who knows else...
