A forlorn hope indeed would be trying to break out of this cell. It is way too hard, but that fact does not discourage you in the least. Because you know that slaves have an use, and that use is work. And there is not much work to do inside this cell.
"Uncle," the prince is smart enough to know when to pretend, "do you think we would be sold to the mines?"
"The mines, us? I am sure not, Allan. We both know to read and write and our maths."
"Yes, that's the only things I am good at. My mentor... I mean my teacher was very happy with me."
