This choice: The two boys search for a new home. | Go Back

Chapter 14: The two boys search for a new home.   (ID #483106)
an addition by: Miguel-Kestrel  More by this author

January, the 14th

Today we spent the day together, mostly indoors because it is so cold outside. Yet we also played a couple of games of soccer; I could not remember how fun it was.

I got the ball from apartment 202 so it was Megan's, my friend. Now she's dead of course. I hope not every girl is dead. Nah, that would be stupid... if it is we are over, the world that is... or at least the human race.
She was so sweet, and a better player than I was.

His apartment is crumbling in pieces and there is no way we can mantain the whole block, so I told Eddie -that's my brand new best friend- that we should move, and he agreed. We are going to find a house somewhere. We want it tough, really tough, small so we can keep it tidy and warm, cause it takes a lot of fuel to heat a big house, and that means lot of work, and beautiful. It has to be beautiful too.

I am happy he agreed with me, just like that. Two great minds think alike.

After soccer we sat by the stove. No tv, no console, so we made some drawing depicting each other. I was about to draw a coffin with Mega sleeping inside, but I changed my mind. I think this is the first time I paint anything normal, maybe I need help.

Eddie who HAS BEEN SPYING ME READING BEHIND MY BACK, says I really need help. But not so much as he, I say.

We ate, sang songs, shared stories and played checkers. Is this how Amish kids enjoy their winter days? Now, I can understand them: it is not so boring as I used to think.

Eddie loved the milk, but missed there is no any cereal left; but we have cookies, even if a bit old.

We need to learn how to make our own food.

We are moving. Tomorrow we will be packing and we will search for a new house. I think that's smart because I don't want to wander with a lot of packages on my back. So we will find the house first.

I'm going to bed, see you tomorrow.
