Chapter 1: Jonathan Takes The New Job   (ID #489103)
an addition by: GFS  More by this author

Jonathan Parker, recent college graduate, and enthusiastic recent intern at the Southern Aerospace Group, has applied for employment at a number of different Aerospace companies for jobs that fit his qualifications. He hopes to move to a place he really would enjoy living. He enjoys the water, mountains, skiing, hiking and fishing, so he is favoring living in one of the coastal areas of the USA. He also wants to start with a good salary and have opportunities for advancement as well as work for a company he can feel proud to work for and be able to contribute something significant to during his employment.

Jonathan, Jon to his friends, is a six-foot tall, dark haired, intelligent, young man with a good sense of humor. He is viewed by most he encounters as an honest young man, pretty much a straight shooter. His parents are proud believing they've raised a reliable son who demonstrates a good work ethic. He is sad to leave his friends back in Oklahoma City, but knows many of them would like to join him in his adventure in a coastal environment.

Jon looks around the kitchen. His parent's house was typical Midwest farmhouse. His parents were already out well into the day's chores as running a farm even with today's technology, requires early rising and long work days. Jon has been up for several hours and already helped do some repairs on one of the family tractors. He then came in to eat and wait for the mail. Jon finishes his second cup of coffee and looks again at the clock. It is 9:30 a.m. The post office box will have today's mail in the boxes in 30 minutes. He closes the Forbes magazine spread open to the top companies to work for in 2008 and grabs his leather flight jacket, heading out the door to get to the post office by 10:00 a.m.

Traffic is heavy this morning, and the parking lot of the post office was absolute mayhem. Eventually he was able to park his vintage Ford Mustang, and join the stream of people entering to mail letters, buy stamps and pick up packages and personal mail. Jon approached P.O. Box 4387 in anticipation. He's applied for several jobs and had been nervously waiting to hear how his applications and resumes were received. He moved his pile to the counter and started sorting through it. There buried in the pile of junk mail, were a letter from his sister in Florida, and a letter in a business envelope from A. R. Bolen Aerospace Company. "Yes,” Jon said aloud a bit too enthusiastically, causing several other patrons to turn and look at him quizzically. Coloring slightly, Jon grabbed his mail and beat a hasty retreat to the privacy of his Mustang. Opening the letter, he read "Dear Mr. Parker, Thank you for applying for employment with A. R. Bolen Aerospace Company of Seattle, Washington. We are pleased you have chosen to consider employment with us and based on your application and references we are ready to offer you employment with our company as a....
