This is an interactive story containing 26 chapters. Each chapter tells part of the story and (usually) ends with multiple choices. Click on a choice and you'll be lead to the next chapter in your story. When you reach a chapter that hasn't been written yet, you will have the option to write it! Don't be shy... make an addition! The owner of this Interactive Story begins with this information and guidance: You are entering the world of federal civil service. A world that used to be more predictably tidy with rules and protocols. Enter the wild west, pirate decade of 2000 and forward, and a questionably functioning U.S. government. Help develop a story that is a collection of stories about U.S. Government employees trying to do their jobs and survive in an increasingly convoluted and dangerous work environment. In this Interactive, you are a federal employee who finds him or herself surrounded by political intrigue, pressure to conform to the wishes of upper managers in ways that do not necessarily enhance your ability to do the job you were hired to do. You see civil service disintegrating around you and a struggle between the ethical and unethical and growing amounts of corruption. The choices you make may mean that you are struggling to survive. What is happening to you and why? What are the patterns of corruption and greed and the connections between people in that world? That is the question isn't it? Create a fictional character and unfold their story in this WDC Interactive. This Interactive story is a purposefully light-hearted attempt to allow for some humor in an area often dreadfully serious. There is room for some reality in the fantasy. I ask that no real persons with names intact be used in this interactive. All persons should be fictionalized or composite identities to protect the innocent or unfortunately also to protect the alleged guilty ones. Enjoy, have fun reading and writing and remember sometimes "Truth IS stranger than fiction!" My intent was to give a relatively safe place to have a voice to some hard-pressed federal government whistleblowers. I hoped that offering a place to use writing as a clarifier and a stress reliever, you will find that writing about your experiences or others that you have observed may be therapeutic. And I hope that for those who have never experienced anything like the stories told here, reading them will allow you to be more empathetic and supportive of those around you who are struggling through this kind of challenge. If you would like to contribute ideas for these stories, but are not comfortable writing about it directly (under your name or pen name), contact me by email. I would be happy to consider incorporationg your ideas or experiences, as possible. You may participate even if you are not a federal whistleblower. You probably know some people in federal service who can be resources for you. If not, and you'd like to read some real life news articles and stories about federal whistleblowers, visit http://whistleblowersupporter.typepad.com or http://gflorencescott.wordpress.com. (If you email me at these sites, please refer to WDC so I will no the context of your questions or comments. It will probably be simpler to email me at my Writing.Com email address. Click on the envelope by my name at the top of the story. Thanks!) Then come back to Writing.Com and add to the adventure in John or Jane Doe @ Federal Agency.Gov. Thanks for participating! GFS
