Chapter 14: Now What?   (ID #1049068)
an addition by: Bruce Lee Gifford Jr.  More by this author

Bruce was lying on his side, slightly curled up. He was slowly being awakened by the sounds of birds. "Damn those windows. I need thicker ones." Bruce kept his eyes closed, hoping to fall back to sleep, but he knew that he wouldn't be able to fall back to sleep, even if it was a Saturday. As he continued to lie still, Bruce could not stop thinking about the crazy dream he had. "If Ken wasn't tall enough already. I'm glad it was a dream. It had to be a dream. How could someone just turn into a giant?"

Before Bruce could open his eyes, a strange sound filled his ears. "Did I leave the sink on or something?" But that was louder than a simple sink running water. It sounded like a roar, like the waterfall from his dream. "No, it can't be. It had to have been a dream. It-" Bruce felt no covers and he was wearing jeans and his t-shirt that was made especially for dragons and their wings. And the surface he was lying on. It was most definitely not his bed. It felt like leather, but it was soft and smooth, with a slight roughness to it. Warms radiated from beneath the surface. It felt alive!

Bruce opened his eyes, while still lying on his side. He pushed himself up till he was raised up by his forearms. He looked down at the brown surface he was lying on and looked around at the object. Sure enough, it was a giant hand and his whole body was lying on top of it. Bruce turned onto his back but sat up leaning on his hands. His eyes followed along the long arm that was comprised of muscles far larger than Bruce's entire body. Attached to that arm was the gigantic form of his spinosaurus friend, Ken, who was lying on his side, facing Bruce with the hand that contained Bruce outstretched from his body. Bruce was motionless with fright and disbelief. "It really wasn't a dream. Ken's a giant," Bruce muttered.

Ken was still fast asleep. His deep breathing was very audible. This gave Bruce the time to calm himself from the shock of seeing his friend as a giant and actually being in his hand. Bruce quickly got off the hand and backed away from it. "I was actually sleeping on his hand?" An embarrassing thought he didn't want to think about at that moment. Bruce turned to the large pond and knelt beside the water's edge. The water looked crystal clear, something he would have never expected in this day and age. He dipped his hands in the water and splashed his face. Bruce turned his head to look back at the giant. Ken was simply massive. Bruce turned away again. "Get a hold of yourself, Bruce," he muttered. "You shouldn't be afraid. This is Ken we're talking about here. He may be a giant now, but he's still the same person I befriended. He's not a monster and he'd never hurt me. I'm safe here." Though, being alone with a giant was very intimidating despite the fact that he was friends.

"What are we going to do about this mess?" Bruce wondered. "At least it's a Saturday today."

A loud, deep growl erupted from Ken's throat, causing all the birds to fly away in a panic. Bruce watched in awe as the massive body sat up. It seemed impossible that something of that size of that weight could possibly rise from the ground. Ken still had his back turned to Bruce when he lifted his arms and rubbed his tired eyes as he yawned terrifyingly.

Ken opened his eyes and looked around. In front of him were the trees that dwarfed even him. "So it wasn't a nightmare after all," Ken said before sighing in disappointment. He was still a giant. Ken looked down. "It doesn't make matters any better that I have no clothes that would fit me." Ken looked down at his hand and remembered something. "Wait a minute, Bruce was in my hand. Where is he?" He had completely forgotten when he woke up and there was no telling what he might have absent mindedly done to Bruce in that groggy state. Ken frantically looked around the area nearest to him and called pout. "Bruce? Bruce, where are you?"

Not wanting to worry his friend anymore, Bruce stood up, and called out, "Over here."

Ken turned around and sighed with relief. "I thought I might have done something terrible." Ken crawled closer to Bruce, but luckily for Bruce's nerves, Ken stopped a good distance away and sat down in front of him with crossed legs. He was also glad that Ken didn't try picking him up.

"This is crazy," Bruce commented after a long moment of silence.

"Yeah, but what do we do now?"
