When those tears could not be contained in her ruby red eyes, they gushed out and watered her checks. She began to feel those same feeling she did every time she encountered a human. Because of their fear of her and their unwillingness to see her as anything but a monster, the dridder would fall into a depressed state. However, seeing this strange child scared of her made her feel even worse. While all the humans she's encountered have either ran away or even tried to kill her, this boy tried to kill himself instead, and now that she had actually put in the effort of saving his life, he still thought she was some terrible monster. She knew that if he were to still have the knife, he would have cut his other wrist. Her horrible depression and sorrow was crushing her stomach, throat, and her heart, paining her to just continue staring at the sad boy curled up on her stomach.
The dridder lifted her right hand and reached out to the boy with her index finger. She just wanted to try and comfort the human. She just wanted to show him she wasn't the monster he thought she was, but as soon as her large finger tip touched the boy's back, he screamed out of pure fright. The dridder quickly retreated her finger from the boy. "How do I show this human I'm not a monster?" the dridder wondered, but she found that nothing she could think of had the guarantee of working. How could she make a person calm down and trust that she's not a monster when he tried to kill himself due to the very sight of her? It seemed as though no matter what she did, all humans would always see her as some horrible beast that would devour them.
"D-d-don't k-kill me, p-please!" the boy repeated with more fear desperation in his voice.
"I... I'm not going to kill you," the dridder suddenly found herself saying. Talking to the boy seemed to be her only hope of showing him she wasn't a monster, but she had a feeling it wasn't going to work. She had tried talking to humans as a tactic before, but with not results. There were times when talking to a human made it worse and made them more afraid of her. She feared this strange looking boy would feel the same way.
Jacob was confused to hear a voice answer him. He didn't think anyone was around but the mindless beast of a dridder. If someone else was around, maybe they'd be able to save him from the dridder. It may have been a long shot since the dridder was just so massive, but it was the only hope that Jacob had. "Please, if anyone is there, help me! I've been captured by a dridder! You have to help me, please!" Jacob yelled out to the unknown owner of the voice he had heard.
"He doesn't even realize I'm the one who spoke. He thinks it was another human. But of course he's come to that conclusion, I'm just a monster. Why would a terrible monster like me want to help a scared boy, or even be able to speak for that matter?" the dridder thought. She sighed with more sadness rushing its way into her body. "It's alright, I'll save you from the dridder," the dridder tried to assure the boy.
Jacob was looking around for the source of the voice at that moment, but when he heard the same female voice speak again, he turned in the direction it came from. To his shock and horror, it was the dridder that had spoken. This realization dashed all his hopes of escaping the clutches of the dridder. Jacob stared up in terror at the large dridder face, but the only things that he could see clearly were those giant ruby eyes of hers.
Jacob saw movement at the corner of his eye and saw the outline of a giant purplish hand coming for him from the darkness. Jacob, who was kneeling down now instead of on his side curled up in a ball, brought his head down and covered the back of it with his arms while pleading, "Don't eat me, please. I don't want to die!"
Jacob felt the fleshy ground beneath him quiver. He looked up and saw that the hand had stopped its advancement, still hovering in the shadows. Jacob looked up at the ruby eyes that were filled with tears! This took Jacob completely by surprise and he stared at those large eyes to make sure he wasn't just imagining it. What he saw was true though. The wateriness of her eyes gave the impression that her ruby irises were made of blood. "But, dridders are monsters. They're not supposed to be able to cry. They're just blood-thirsty monsters that eat humans." Jacob just couldn't understand why this dridder was just so sad. He had never even seen a human look this sad.
"I'm not going to hurt you, I just want to help you," the dridder said before she reached out with her hand again. The boy didn't scream this time when she picked him up. She was very careful about picking him up. Although he was still frightened of her like all the other humans, she still couldn't bring herself to harm him. It wasn't his fault he was frightened of her. It was only natural to be afraid of a monster like her. Plus, being half human, she could not bring herself to harm or eat a human.
The dridder reached her hand out as far away from her as possible before setting him down on the ground. When her hand was retreated, she told the human, "There, I've saved you from the monster. You're free now and that horrible dridder will never bother you again." The dridder turned her head away from the boy. She could no longer bring herself to look at him. At that moment, she could no longer hold in her sadness and sobbed uncontrollablly like she did almost every time she encountered a human. Where will this story go next? Your choices are below...
