She wanted to make sure she had heard the human correctly as she wiped away the remnants of her sobbing left under her ruby eyes and on her cheeks.
"If you want a name to be called and you don't mind me giving you a name, then I could give you a name," Jonathan informed her. He was a bit nervous now. It wasn't because he feared the dridder, even though she was still a bit scary to him, because Jonathan strongly believed she wasn't a monster. Instead, he was nervous about possibly giving her a name and even suggesting it. He didn't know any dridder names and he knew little about her. How was he going to figure out at good enough name for her? He also feared that he had offended her. Why would a giant dridder want to be named by a human she had just met? Jonathan just hoped that he didn't throw himself in a bad predicament.
The dridder kept her head facing down at the human, but her eyes wandered away from him for a while as she thought about what she should say. Letting a human she had just met name her seemed odd to her. A name was supposed to be given to her by a family member, a person who really cared about her and knew her. A name was supposed to be something special. "But, I don't have someone from my family to name me. They've abandoned me. In truth, this human is the first person to come across me to actually seem to care. Maybe he was meant to name me. And, if he feels that I need a name to talk with him, then it could mean that he wants maybe get to know me. If he didn't want anything to do with me, then why would he want to give me a name? Otherwise, he would have just called me dridder for the time being and once he left, he'd never come back. Maybe this human can be my first friend."
"If you have a name for me and want to give me a name, then I would like you to name me," the dridder finally stated.
"You don't mind me naming you?"
"I've always wanted a name, but I never really had a reason to have a name, because I've never had anyone to talk to, and no one has ever offered to give me one. I don't mind you naming me."
"I'll name you, but I don't know any dridder names, just human ones."
"I don't mind having a human name." The dridder thought about having a human name. It might actually benefit her to have a human name. Maybe humans will see her less of a monster if she had a human name. Maybe more people will less afraid of her like this human. "I would actually like a human name."
Jonathan was a bit surprised by the dridder actually wanting a human name. However, he didn't think about that odd request for too long, because he needed to think about a human name for the dridder. Jonathan looked down at the ground as many different names came to his mind. While Jonathan did this, the dridder lowered her arachnid body down onto her floor. She then folded her hands below as she waited anxiously for the human to come up with a name. She continued to stare at him with hope filling her expression.
Jonathan thought of many names, but none of them seemed right for a giant dridder. Jonathan looked up at the dridder and saw the hope in her waiting eyes. "Ruby," Jonathan whispered upon seeing those eyes.
"What did you say?" the dridder asked.
"How about the name Ruby?"
The dridder was overwhelmed with happiness. She couldn't help herself from beginning to tear up. She was just so happy to have a name. Worried that he had picked a bad name and offended her, Jonathan quickly said with a panic, "If... if you don't like the name I could..."
"No, I like the name," the dridder interrupted, "I'm just happy because I finally have a name. Thank you, Jonathan. I like it."
"Well, I just couldn't call you dridder now could I? And you could just call me John.
"John, this is the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me."
Before John could reply, Ruby quickly reached out a hand to him. John's body had no time to react. One moment, a giant hand was heading straight for him and the next moment, that giant hand was wrapped around him and he was being lifted high in the air. The hand was so big, than his entire body, all except his head, was encased in the fist. John didn't know what to think, everything happened so fast that his head didn't process the emotion of fear. The next thing he knew, he was being pressed against Ruby's left breast! She had opened up the hand so that his front was against the bare purplish skinned breast with her hand pushing him into the soft skin.
At first, John panicked, not just because he was scared she was trying to harm him in some way, but that he was suddenly touching a naked breast of a person he had just met and was worried he was being rude to her. However, the dridder wasn't doing anything to him, and she didn't seem to be offended. After all, she was the one who placed him there. John hesitantly placed his hands on the flesh and pushed against it so that he could lean back a bit and look up. John was just able to move the strong hand behind him enough to look up at her face. Ruby was looking down at him with her eyes closed. A smile was on her face, and tears of joy were dripping from her eyes. "She's hugging me. She's just overwhelmed with joy. Wow, she must have really had a terribly lonely life if me just naming her is the best thing anyone has ever done for her." Where will this story go next? Your choices are below...
