The gun barrel struck Jess's tiny but muscular legs with a crack like a baseball bat. She didn't remember more then that sickening cracking sound before she blacked out, awakening a few moments later with incredible pain running through her left foot, lying on the dresser table on top of an issue of Power Girl, who looked chronically skinny and under-endowed compared to Jess.

Despite the pain ,she quickly rose to a sitting position - her abs were slightly bruised, and her right knee didn't quite feel right, but her left foot was in incredible pain. She ignored it only to see Robert pointing the gun at her from a few feet away.. she started rolling to the side as he pulled the trigger of the now smoking gun, which now had it's barrel bent by the impact of her foot.

She tumbled down between the dresser and the bed to a new fresh wave of pain that nearly caused her to black out again as she struck the floor, but didn't see any of the green ray fire - instead she saw blue sparks begin to arc from the thing, and Robert screamed in pain as he dropped the gun, which was now buzzing and glowing with a peculiar blue energy. He held his burning hand for a second and stepped back, realizing the gun was broken, and he was trapped in his shrunken form...

"Shit, it's broken. My only consolation is that your stuck this way Jes--"

Then the gun exploded, and the three of them blacked out as the blue light overtook them as reality adjusted itself to the titanic forces that had just been unleashed.
