By the time Amanda had decided on Danielle, she was already out of sight, already camouflaged by the thick crowd of students trying to make their way to class. But it didn’t matter. Amanda knew where her friend was going. It was the same place she went every morning before school started: the library.

Danielle was standing in the science fiction section, trying to find something to read, when Amanda walked in. The library was nearly empty, save for a handful of people on the computers and the librarian sitting at her desk, reading a magazine. Which was just fine with Amanda, since she wanted to do this whole thing as quietly as she could, then slip away to the hallway without anyone noticing her.

Amanda walked to the aisle of books directly behind Danielle and brought out the ray gun. The muscle dial was still set at 65%, so Amanda turned it down to 55%. After all, she was willing to share the device with her friends, but only if she could still be the biggest girl.

The height dial was turned down to 5%, since Danielle was already average height.

Amanda found a gap in the bookshelf where a handful of books were missing, giving her a clear shot of Danielle’s back.

Amanda squeezed the trigger and hit...
