Amanda lay on the bed blinking her eyes from the flash. Her skin was burning hot, painfully so, it felt like a horrible sun burn. She tore her night shirt in half trying to get it off, just to get it to stop touching her skin. Her heart raced with panic and adrenaline and she couldn't catch her breath. What had the broken gun done to her? She tried to scream again but then everything went black.

Amanda was awoken by someone pounding on her door. "Amanda, did you sleep through your alarm again? Get up, you're going to be late for school," her mothers voice shouted from her doorway.

"I'm up," Amanda insisted groggily as she sat up. A wave of dizzyness washed over her. "I'm up." She blinked a few times, her vision seemed mostly clear.

"Well hurry up, you're going to be late." Her mother closed the door and left.

Amandas skin no longer felt like it had been cooked but it was still sensitive to the touch. She skipped putting a bra on (it was almost pointless for her to wear one anyway) and put on her softest and most comfortable shirt, a hot pink tank top. She pulled on a pair of panties and her favorite cut off shorts and slipped into her sandals. She hesitated a second before scooping the broken gun parts into her backpack and then dashed out the door towards the bus stop.

As she was running she couldn't help but notice that something didn't feel right.
