I know other nagas won't accept me because I don't see humans as prey, and I was worried humans wouldn't accept me because I'm a naga. If this village is able to accept me as a part of it, and this becomes my home, I will do everything I can to protect it and everyone in it, because I'm grateful that I won't have to live on my own."
"How will you protect this village from Lord William's men?" Ben questioned with skepticism, "You may be a giant naga, but you're still just a child. How can you protect this village?"
"I've killed some of his soldiers to save Felix and my dad," Nahash informed Ben, proud of his accomplishments and saving Felix and Duncan. Nahash also came from a world where it was kill or be killed, a world where one had to fight to survive. Defeating adult humans, no matter how small they were compared to him, seemed to be one of Nahash's greatest accomplishments.
"You've killed humans!?" Ben yelled, jumping at the opportunity to show the village that Nahash was a monster, "You've heard it from this beast's own mouth! It killed humans, and it seems proud of that fact. This naga is a child and it has already killed humans without being affected by the fact it had killed someone. If it can kill that easily as a child, it could become a devastating and blood-thirsty monster."
"No, I..." Nahash tried to argue, but he didn't know what he could say to counter the mean human's argument. Instead, Nahash blurted out, "But those men were evil, and I didn't know them."
"And you think it is okay to kill someone just because you don't know them?" Ben yelled out.
"That's enough, Ben!" Duncan ordered.
However, Ben didn't listen and continued, "They may have worked for an evil man, but did that make them evil. They were just following orders. They could have had families and friends that will never see them again."
"But I," Nahash began to tear up, finally realizing the gravity of what he had done.
"I bet you ate those men to," Ben accused.
"I didn't," Nahash cried.
"You don't stop to think or regret killing a person on a battlefield," Duncan argued from a top the cart, "There are things that have to be done for the good of others."
"This is not a battlefield, this is a village. If he thinks it's alright to kill people he doesn't know, what's stopping him from killing again if someone makes him mad or doesn't give him what he wants. He's a giant; he'll have the power to do whatever he wants and..." Ben continued to try and rally others in the crowd.
"Stop it!" yelled out a voice. Everyone turned their attention to the small boy in Nahash's hand. The voice had come from Felix as he stood on Nahash's hand while it was level with the giant naga's chest. The large head of the naga above him was crying from Ben's words. "Nahash did it to save Duncan and I," Felix explained, "Those men were going to kill us, but Nahash stopped them because of his love for his brother within him. Despite what you think, Nahash is a kind and caring kid who would do anything for the ones he loves. If you are kind to him, he would never harm you. He knows humans are people and he will treat everyone as equals despite his size and power. I'm sure Duncan and Sarah will raise Nahash to be good and he will listen to them because he sees them as his parents since he can no longer be with his own. This village and everyone in it are safe with Nahash."
The whole village went silent and Felix turned back around to look up at Nahash's giant face. Nahash sniffed and wiped away a few tears with his other hand. "Thank you, Felix," Nahash said.
"That's what brothers are for, right?" Felix replied. Nahash smiled and hugged Felix against his chest which helped Nahash's cause by showing how gentle the giant naga really was.
"Now unless there is any more objections, This will be Nahash's new home and Sarah and I will be the Nahash and Felix's new parents. They will both be citizens and will have equal rights. Is that understood?" Duncan informed the crowd. No one spoke up. If there was still any shred of doubt in people, none of them spoke up. "This meeting is dismissed," Duncan finished.
The crowd began to disperse and Sarah approached Nahash. She placed her hand on the underside of the vertical base of Nahash's tail. Nahash looked down while still hugging Felix. "Are you alright, Nahash?" Sarah asked in a caring and sincere voice.
"That man's word hurt me," Nahash sniffed.
"I promise that I will do my best to make sure that man never hurts you again," Sarah told her giant son.
Nahash began to cheer up. He bent down and picked up Sarah with a different hand and pressed her against his cheek as he rubbed it against her. Sarah was relieved and happy at how affectionate Nahash was. She kissed his cheek as he showed her his affection.
"Nahash!" Duncan called up. Nahash looked down and saw another man standing beside his new father. "Nahash, this is my brother, Jacob. Whether he likes it or not, his is yours and Felix's uncle now," Duncan introduced.
"Hi," Nahash replied sheepishly.
"Could you please put Felix and your mom down, Nahash? I'm sure Felix is eager to have some real clothes that Sarah can provide," Duncan said.
"I should have some clothes at home that should fit you. I own a clothing shop after all," Sarah informed Felix. Felix thanked his new mother and Nahash obeyed his human father and set the rest of his family down gently. Sarah led Felix to their home and Nahash followed behind. He wanted to take a look at the house as well, even if he could only look through windows. He also wanted to stay close to his "big" brother Felix.
As all this happened, Duncan and Jacob spoke. Where will this story go next? Your choices are below...
