He had to give the Elders the message. He had tell them what Lord William has been planning, that Lord William has be toying with dark magic, and he had to tell them of his brother's death. However, Belgnir didn't trust putting all of it in a letter. There were no elves or "friends" of the elves in the area. Belgnir couldn't trust them with such a letter to bring to the Elders. He also didn't want to spend more time traveling the Elven Domain and then travel all the way back here. Belgnir had already decided that he needed to send his message through the wind. It was a magical gift the elves possessed. They could use magical winds to send out a message only elves could hear, but that ability worked best in open planes otherwise the message might not come out clear. This was why he was heading out of the forest.
Suddenly, a terrifying shriek pierced his sensitive like a needle digging at it from the inside. Belgnir stopped and winced at the sound that tormented hi. Luckily for him, the creature seemed to be a good distance away, but not far enough if it harmed his ears to that extent. When the sound seized, Belgnir turned in the direction of wince it came. Belgnir knew that sound. It was a hydra. Back in Felarya, he had heard creatures called negative hydras. These creatures were extremely rare and lived in deep and forgotten negative planes. Those creatures sent in avatars to different points of the universe to get its food, because it never leaves the negative plane.
However, the hydras of this world were much different from negative hydras. The hydras of this world weren't avatars, but a different species of hydra. They were large creatures, but not as big of creatures as the Felaryan top predators. So for Belgnir, killing a hydra by himself wasn't an outlandishly impossible thing, since he had killed adult nagas and such. The only hard part about hydras of this world was that one had to kill the main head to truly kill it and the shriek the hydras emitted could do serious damage to elves and other creatures with heightened hearing. Belgnir had even heard stories of elves' heads exploding from shrieks of a hydra. For other beings with normal hearing, the shriek had the potential of putting them into shock if they didn't have a strong enough will.
Belgnir contemplated on what to do. A hydra living in this forest was a dangerous. If he had to stay in the forest until the Elders replied back, a hydra would make this difficult and would have to be dealt with as soon as possible. Belgnir had enough strength still to deal with the hydra now, and he deemed it best to take care of it at that moment while he knew where it was. Belgnir hurried in the direction of the shriek but his footfalls were light and silent as an elf's steps should be.
As Belgnir closed the distance between himself and where he had heard the shriek, he began hearing something else. It sounded like something was making a lot of noise, almost like two very large beasts were fighting. "It sounds like the hydra is fighting something large. But what could be large enough in this forest to fight a hydra...? Of course, the Felaryan naga, Nahash was his name. He must be fighting the hydra, unless there is another large beast that could take on a hydra."
Belgnir quickened his pace more. "If Nahash is fighting a hydra, he might need help. The Felaryan naga might be large and one of the largest species of naga, but it's still a child and could have troubles fighting a hydra." Belgnir growled. "I can't believe I'm helping a Felaryan top Predator, and a naga of all creatures, but this naga really seems to want to change. It's hard to believe, but this naga might actually become a force of good. Such a power could come in handy, and it might actually be best for the naga to stay alive, for now. I know that the Elders might want this naga to be watched to make sure it doesn't become a danger, and make sure this naga truly sees humans as people when it's being raised by them."
Just as Belgnir began crossing the river at a shallow point and before he reached the battle raging in the distance, the battle seemed to stop. Only silence could be heard in the distance. "Did the naga fail?" Belgnir couldn't believe his own thoughts; he was actually slightly worried for the well being of a Felaryan naga. Then again, this naga was only five years old and saw humans as people, for the moment.
Belgnir drew both the blades. His own blade was in his left hand and his brother's was in his right. Belgnir was ready to fight a hydra to the death and would gladly do it with the two swords acting as one. Belgnir came upon the place where the battle of two giants had been fought. There he discovered a dead hydra lying on the ground. The hydra's main head was cracked open and leaking blood. A large bloody boulder about the size of the hydra's head was settled beside it. Belgnir's eyes soon spotted the second giant and it was indeed Nahash the Felaryan naga. Nahash was lying down on his back with Duncan positioned on top of the naga's shoulder. There were bit marks along Nahash's tail as well as some marks on his human half. There were fewer wounds on Nahash's human half, but they seemed more serious since that skin wasn't as tough as the tail. However, no vital parts seemed to be bitten. The naga looked like it could still pull through.
Belgnir looked back at the hydra. The hydra was an adult male and one of the large ones. The beast was much bigger than Nahash's human half but wasn't as long as Nahash if Nahash's tail were to be included in the length. The hydra of that size should have overpowered the naga, but Nahash still seemed to have managed and defeated it. "This is unbelievable. If Nahash can kill a hydra as his age, he's sure to be a very powerful force as an adult. I can only hope that's a good thing."
"You did really well this hunt Nahash," Duncan commended, "You did what no one else in our village could."
"Thank you...Father," Nahash said, smiling and wincing at the same time.
Belgnir was very surprised to hear the naga call the human hunter "father". It had to have been a great surprise for the Felaryan elf that showed little emotion to widen his eyes slightly and paused for even just a moment. However, he did speak up, "Actually it's quite a feat for him to kill a hydra. Even if he is a Felaryan, something of his age with a slight height disadvantage against a hydra should have not survived against a hydra. That was quite a feat indeed."
Duncan, still kneeling on the horizontal plane Nahash's shoulder made while he was lying on his back, looked in the direction of the voice and found that it came from the elf from before. Nahash turned his head as well. "You?" Duncan said mostly out of confusion for the sudden appearance, "Did you find what you were looking for?"
"I have. Then I heard the shriek of this hydra and the battle. I came to investigate," Belgnir answered. Belgnir notice Nahash wincing every time he breathed. "Is he hurt?" he asked Duncan.
"Yes, but I'm sure whether some of his ribs are broken or not."
"May I look at the area?" Belgnir this time addressed his question to Nahash, "I may not have healing powers, but I will still be able to tell whether they're broken or not."
"Yes," said Nahash
"Is it a particular side that hurts more of both sides?"
"My right." Nahash didn't want to say too much. More talking meant he'd have to breath sooner and breathing in hurt.
Belgnir approached Nahash's right side. "Could you pick my up with your palm and position me close to where it hurts the most? I may still have to touch the spot, but I don't want to stand on it if it's really broken," Belgnir requested.
Nahash answered by turning his right hand palm up. Belgnir stepped onto the blood covered hand and Nahash lifted him to the spot. Belgnir examined the spot and would discover that... Where will this story go next? Your choices are below...
