Crown Prince Chandler, hereafter called His Imperial Majesty, Chandler, the High King of Fatlantis sat down on the throne.
It had been ages since Chandler was a little, pampered prince. Now in his mid thirties, he was an imposing figure, nine feet tall and a hefty 5,000 pounds. He sat down slowly and rested his broad, fleshy arms on the armrests of the throne. The courtiers and nobles, all fat and well-fed, sat down on the long wooden benches either side of the long, red carpet. A tall man wearing blue robes strode forward. The man was tall and thin, unlike the new king, who looked like a beached whale. In his hands, the man held a glistening gold crown.
"By the power vested in me, I do present thee this office, this throne, and this land, for you and your descendants to rule over, with the trust that you will do so with wisdom, kindness, mercy and justice. I hereby crown thee, Chandler. To be known hereafter, as His Imperial Majesty, High King of Fatlantis!"
Osric the sourcerer stood up on tiptoe and some of the people laughed. Chandler bent down a bit and Osric stepped up on a stool and put the crown neatly on the new king's head. The crowds of people clapped and cheered and whooped and screamed!
Chandler smiled. The day had come! He was king! He couldn't believe it! He really was king! And not just king of one of Fatlantis's smaller counties or provinces or states or protectorates...but KING OF EVERYTHING! HIGH KING OF THE ENTIRE EMPIRE! Chandler shivered a bit. That felt good!
People clapped and cheered. Outside, soldiers fired cannons and set of fireworks! Commoners in the streets cheered and screamed. They had longed for this day for years. High King Daniel had decided to abdicate due to his age...and a health-scare a few months back, and had passed the kingdom to his son. The old king still lived in the palace, advising his son on what to do, and he still made regular visits into town. People were excited for Chandler because the new king had always been kind, generous, friendly and never too busy to listen to problems. A king for the people!
That evening, there was a LOT of public and private feasting. The great halls of the palace were filled with the rich and famous, the powerful and influential. And of course, the children, who had been allowed to join in the festivities. There were five of them, all told. Master Darius and Master Richard, Chandler's two sons, Master Leonard (called "Leo" by his friends and family), and Master Caspian, sons of Chandler's cousin, Prince Sebastian, Earl of Whittenburg, and last but not least, Master Javelin, son of Prince Maximus, nephew of Lachlan, Lord of Laceton.
The palace is crowded and noisy. Who will you decide to meet first, in the midst of the celebrations? Where will this story go next? Your choices are below...
